Description:
A 1970s couture gown by Alfred Bosand of New York and Paris. For Stanley Korshak Chicago. The dress features a nude chemise with spaghetti straps beneath a sheer black netted overlay with shimmering bronze/brown embroidered thread in a Mod stripe and polka dot pattern creating a contemporary lace effect. Bodice ends at the true waist and skirt is heavily gathered with a spectacular sweep. The gown has long bell sleeves, a small mock neck and hidden back zipper closure.
The lace pattern evokes the designs of Frank Lloyd Wright's 1912 Coonley Playhouse designs.
This gown brings together two fashion legends of the time--Alfred Bosard and Stanley Korshak Chicago. Bosard's clientele ranged from First Lady Patricia Nixon and Anne Landers to Mae West to numerous NYC and Palm Beach socialites and numerous show biz personalities. designs were sold at Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, as well as many smaller, upscale women’s stores around the country, including Martha’s and Sara Frederick’s of Palm Beach. His Bosard closed his Manhattan based atelier in 1986.
Stanley Korshak Chicago (important distinction) opened a luxury goods store in Chicago in 1909, which was one of the first to offer designer women's apparel in the city. By the 1920s the store had taken up residence at 624 S. Michigan Avenue and became a cornerstone of the Miracle Mile, along with Blum's Vogue and Saks Fifth Avenue. The store at 624 was called "The Blackstone Shop", perhaps a reference to the Blackstone Hotel.
By 1988 Korshak's Chicago had been bought out and shortly thereafter moved to Dallas where it remains a destination high end clothing and wedding gowns.
624 S. Michigan was owned by Florenz Ziegfield Sr., father of Flo Ziegfield, "Ziegfield Follies" fame.
